One thing I've learned

Life changes when you have a baby. (Yeah, you can laugh. I do.)
Not that I expected ANYTHING to stay the same. I knew.

But that's actually not what I've learned. I've learned a nifty survival skill. Compartmentalizing.

When I'm at the donut factory and Baby Nugget is at Adventureland Daycare, I can't sit here and worry about her.

I refocus, and Make The Donuts. Period. Of course if something comes up and I need to worry, I will. But until then, I have to mentally shut off Nugget Mode, and focus on work.

The same for when I'm home. I'm in Nugget mode. We're playing Peek a Boo (the dumbest game ever. But it cracks her shit UP! She goes bonkers.) we're walking, we're walking, we're bouncing, we're walking, we're doing lunges across the house, we're sitting on the couch for a secon-nope, we're walking..

And Nugget is asleep. Finally.

Until 2am, when its all PARTY ALL THE TIME!!! WHOOO HOO! No matter how many times I tell her "Kid, nothing fun happens on a Tuesday at 2am. I PROMISE you are not missing out," she's still up, ready to rock.

So for those brief hours between 9ish and 2am, I compartmentalize into a Writer. A very sleepy, easily distracted writer. And I give up well before 2am. Usually by 11 I'm done for. Obviously I'm still working on this skill. But its a nifty trick to work on.

If Happy Housekeeper mode ever comes into play, well, I just wouldn't hold my breath on that.

Big Guy only gets HotPants Mode um... none of your business. That's a different kind of blog, now isn't it. *wink*
